The Twelve Letter On The Board Are:

T, U, E, B, P, X, L, I, R, S, V & C

The Sides Are Arranged As Follows:

Top: T, U & E
Right: B, P & X
Bottom; L, I & R
Left: S, V & C

Hints For Today’s Letter Boxed Puzzle:

Try these before scrolling to the answer.

Hint 1: The solution uses two words. The first word starts with the letter V.

Hint 2: The first word has nine letters and covers eight of the twelve on the board. It is a noun. Think of the small entrance hall or lobby you pass through before entering the main room of a building.

Hint 3: The second word starts with E, which is the last letter of the first word. It has seven letters and contains X, the hardest letter on today’s board. It is a noun meaning a short passage taken from a longer piece of writing, music, or film.

Hint 4: V and X both appear in today’s solution. One goes into word one, the other into word two. Getting both of them placed early is what makes this board solvable in two words.

The Two-Word Solution For Today Is:

VESTIBULE
EXCERPT

VESTIBULE covers V, E, S, T, I, B, U and L. EXCERPT picks up from E and finishes with X, C, P and R. Together they clear all twelve letters on the board in exactly two words.

Why This Solution Works

VESTIBULE handles eight of the twelve letters in a single move. That kind of first word coverage makes the second word almost automatic. It also takes care of V immediately, which is the letter most players avoided today.

The VES opening is your signal. When you see V, E and S on different sides of the box, VESTIBULE becomes the natural build. The longer the word, the less work your second word has to do.

EXCERPT solves the X problem directly. X fits into almost no common English words, but EXCERPT uses it naturally in the middle. It opens on E, which is exactly where VESTIBULE ends, so the chain connects without any forcing.

Most players tried to fit X into their first word and hit a dead end. The right move is to let VESTIBULE handle V first and trust EXCERPT to clean up X in word two.

One Tip For Tomorrow’s Letter Boxed:

Boards with both V and X are among the hardest Letter Boxed layouts the NYT publishes. Both letters appear in very few common English words, which makes them feel impossible at first glance.

The fix is to split them deliberately. Assign one difficult letter to word one and the other to word two. Today that split was VESTIBULE for V and EXCERPT for X.

Tomorrow, whatever the two hardest letters are, try splitting them the same way.
